TB in the Mining Sector in Southern Africa (2017-2024):

Southern Africa’s mining sector. In response, the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Heads of State signed the 2012 Declaration on TB in the Mines, mandating collaborative action among health, labour, migration, finance, and mining sectors.

  • Phase I (2016–2017): EANNASO supported the development of infrastructure, systems, and a human rights and gender toolkit for addressing barriers to TB services.
  • Phase II (2018–2020): Leveraging findings from Phase I, we strengthened health systems and improved service quality, supporting over 30 civil society organizations and key populations in integrating human rights and gender approaches in TB programs across Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania, South Africa, Eswatini, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
  • Phase III (2021–2024): EANNASO plays a key role in the Regional Coordination Mechanism (RCM), overseeing grant implementation across all 16 SADC countries.
